The Initiatief ’86 exhibition, held at the Saint Peter’s Abbey in Ghent, showcased René Heyvaert’s work within the context of contemporary Belgian art. For this edition, a corridor of the abbey was divided into three distinct compartments, creating a subtle dialogue between the artworks and the historic architecture.
Heyvaert’s installation explored the relationship between space, object, and viewer, highlighting his ability to transform simple elements into architectural and sensory experiences. Through this exhibition, he demonstrated how architecture and art can intersect to question perception, functionality, and everyday life, while situating his work in a deeply human and contemplative dimension.
