Lili Reynaud-Dewar

Oops, I think I must have lost my lighter...help me find it?

Kunsthaus Bregenz

Lili Reynaud Dewar tells stories of emotions and obstacles through her videos, performances, and sculptures. The French artist probes the limits of personal and collective experience, creating spaces where human vulnerability and resilience become tangible. What does it mean to live in a world where the boundaries between the private and the public are constantly shifting? Which borders — historical, social, economic, or biological — are deemed insurmountable? And how might they still be subverted?

In one series of black-and-white images, Reynaud Dewar turns her attention, with both wit and a critical gaze, to the taboo of nudity, the female body, and its commodification within contemporary consumer culture. On her billboards, a naked woman addresses passing drivers with disarming directness:
“Oops, I think I may have lost my lighter somewhere on the ground… Could someone please be so kind as to come here and help me find it? Who will help?”
